The last post I did about College Basketball was about the notion of a team getting to go to the big dance because they won their conference tournament. I brought up the point that the automatic bid should go to the team that won the regular season, because it shouldn't reward a team that just gets hot over a few days, but sucked all regular season long. I take it back.
I'm really enjoying the run that the Georgia Bulldogs are on right now. A run that is made all the more special by the fact that they had to pull and Ernie Banks and play two yesterday. Now, a team winning two big time college basketball games in one day is impressive to start, but when you consider that UGA was 14-16 when the day began and that the teams they played were 40-20 and only played one game each, you see just how big it was for the Dawgs.
The stars kept on aligning when Arkansas toppled heavy favorites Tennessee in the other semi meaning that if UGA has anything left in the tank they could complete an amazing run today at 3:30. Chances are pretty good that the Razorbacks will win that game, but the boys from Georgia are playing not only for a chance to go to the NCAA's but also for a state ripped apart by a huge storm system. So, don't count the Dawgs out. I'll be pulling for them.
