Andruw Jones... Worth Big Bucks?

So the Atlanta Braves have decided to let Andruw Jones go, a move many thought was coming when the they went out and got Mark Texiera. The question is: where will Jones wind up next year? He is only 30 years old (I know it seams like he should be 35 by now doesn't it) and he is still a very good player. But, is he worth 10 to 18 million a year? I don't think so. He isn't a game changer like A Rod is or even a guy like Alfonso Soriano is. Let's take a look at Jones' career numbers: .263-368-1117. That sounds great when you think of all that power and all those runs, and when you add in his .839 OPS he sounds like an offensive force, but this number floored me. $73,000,000. That is the amount he has made in his big league career which has spanned 12 years making it only about 6 million a year. But if you look at his last 6 years he has made 11.53 million a year. Plus he's always had Chipper protecting him in the line up.

What will Andruw do on his own? Some team (and god I hope it isn't' the Orioles) is going to give him 90 million over 5 years to come in and hit .255-28-109 when they could just develop a guy to do that. But, Jones will get the money because he has a name, he has those homers against the Yankees in the '96 Series, and he is an obvious choice if you don't take the time to think about ROI.
